Therapist for Burnout in Chicago
You are still doing the job. That is the confusing part. Nothing has visibly fallen over, you still deliver, and from the outside it looks like you are fine. But you are running on something other than energy now, and you cannot remember the last time the work gave anything back.

How we treat it
Burnout is not one thing,
so there is no one way we work
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Looks at the standards you hold yourself to and where you picked them up, then tests whether they are actually yours.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Looks at where the drive to keep going came from, because for most people it started long before this job.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Works on the part of this that lives in your body rather than your calendar, and teaches your nervous system how to come down.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Loosens the grip of the thoughts that keep you working, and puts your attention back on what you wanted the work to be for.
Not sure
Is this burnout, or depression?
Nine questions, about two minutes. It uses the PHQ-9, the same short screening tool clinicians use. You will get a score and a few things worth reading next. No email needed.

Getting started
A free consultation. We believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and that starts with working with someone who gets you. The consultation is how you find out.
Getting scheduled. We aim to book you within 24 hours of reaching out, and most people are seen that week.
Your first session. You bring what is on your mind. Your therapist takes some history and you set goals together. Your therapist paces it with you.

FAQs
Questions about therapy for burnout
Is burnout the same as depression?
They overlap and they can look identical from the outside, but they are not the same thing. Burnout is usually tied to a context, most often work, and lifts when that context changes. Depression tends to follow you everywhere, including into the parts of your life you still enjoy. Sorting out which one you are dealing with is early work, and it matters, because the treatment is different.
Do I have to quit my job?
No, and we are not here to talk you into it or out of it. Most people do not leave. Often the useful work is separating what is genuinely unbearable about the job from what has become unbearable because you have nothing left to meet it with. Those look the same from where you are sitting and they need different responses.
Is it still burnout if I like my job?
Often, yes. Burnout is not really about disliking the work. It is about the work no longer giving anything back, and it happens to people who care most, which is part of why it takes so long to notice.
I do not have time for weekly therapy. That is sort of the problem.
Fair, and you are not the first person to say it. The version of you with no time is the one we would be working on. If an hour a week genuinely cannot exist right now, say so on the consultation and your therapist will be honest with you about what is workable.
My employer offers an EAP. Can I use that here?
No. We do not work with EAP programs. What we do take is insurance, and we are in network with most major plans. If your EAP is what you have and you would rather use it, tell us on the consultation and we will point you toward somewhere that takes it, no hard feelings. If insurance works for you, we check your coverage before you commit to anything.
Can therapy help if the job really is the problem?
Yes. Not everything you are carrying is personal, and treating it as though it is does not help. Where the problem is genuinely the workplace, the work becomes what you want to do about it and how you protect yourself while you decide.
Will my employer find out I am in therapy?
No. We do not contact your employer. If you use insurance, your plan receives the information it needs to pay the claim, which is not the content of your sessions. Your therapist will walk you through exactly what that means at the start.
How long do sessions last?
Fifty five minutes, usually weekly to begin with.
What should I bring to my first session?
Nothing. Your therapist takes it from wherever you are that day.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions every clinician is bound by, which your therapist will walk you through in your first session.
Do you accept insurance?
Our whole team is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans. Some of our clinicians are also paneled with United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna. Coverage varies from therapist to therapist, and we check yours before you commit to anything.
