Online Therapy in Illinois
Some people do their best work in the room. Others do it from their own couch, a quiet corner at home, or a parked car between meetings. The therapy is the same either way. The room is the part you get to choose. It tends to be the right fit when one of these is true.

How we treat it
The work does not change online,
only the room it happens in
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Names the thought patterns that keep something running, and works on what to do with them in the week between sessions.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
Starts from what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, and paces the work so nothing moves faster than you can hold.
Strengths-Based Therapy
Begins with what you are already doing well, because you are usually more resourced than you feel, and builds from there.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Eases the fight with difficult feelings so they take up less room, and focuses on moving toward what matters.
Not sure
Is online therapy as good as being in the room?
For most of what brings people to therapy, the research says yes. Reviews of randomised trials in anxiety, depression and PTSD find no meaningful difference in outcomes, in satisfaction, or in how many people stay in treatment. What matters far more than the format is whether you and your therapist fit. That is what the consultation is for.

FAQs
Questions about online therapy
How do virtual sessions work?
A secure link, sent before your session. Nothing to download and nothing to set up. Sessions are HIPAA compliant and encrypted. You need a device with a camera and a spot where you will not be interrupted.
Do I need to live in Illinois?
You need to be physically in Illinois during your session, because that is where your therapist is licensed. That applies while travelling too, so it is worth telling your therapist if you will be away.
Can I mix online and in-person sessions?
Yes, and many people do. Our space is at 700 N. Green Street in River West if you want some weeks in the room and the rest from home.
Is online therapy as effective as seeing someone in person?
For anxiety, depression and trauma, the research finds no meaningful difference in outcomes or in how many people stay in treatment. The fit between you and your therapist matters more than the format.
What do I need for it to go well?
A door that closes, headphones, and fifty five minutes where you are not also doing something else. A parked car counts. So does a spare room, a closet, or a bench in a quiet park.
How long do sessions last?
Fifty five minutes, usually weekly to begin with.
What should I bring to my first session?
Nothing. Your therapist takes it from wherever you are that day.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions your therapist will walk you through at the start.
Do you accept insurance?
We are in network with several major plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna and United Healthcare. Coverage varies from therapist to therapist, and we check yours before you commit to anything.
