Answers to your most frequently asked questions.

General

Bring yourself, your questions, and whatever you’re feeling—exactly as you are.

Individual and couples sessions are 55 minutes. Think of it as a focused hour; enough time to get traction, end with intention, and set you up for real-life follow-through.

What you share in therapy is completely confidential except for a few exceptions. This includes information regarding wanting to harm yourself or others.

Yes. Marra offers therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and related concerns. We tailor the work to your goals, whether you’re seeking insight, coping tools, or deeper relational change

Yes. Marra offers couples and premarital therapy for adults who want to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, and address emotional disconnection. We work with partners navigating conflict, recurring patterns, major life transitions, and the desire to feel more connected and understood.

Premarital therapy is often helpful for couples who want to build a strong foundation before marriage—exploring communication styles, expectations, values, and ways of navigating challenges together. Couples therapy can support partners at any stage, whether you’re feeling stuck, distant, or simply wanting to deepen your relationship.

Our approach is collaborative and intentional, focused on understanding relational dynamics, improving communication, and fostering emotional safety. We offer both in-person couples and premarital therapy in Chicago and virtual sessions, depending on fit and availability.

Our clinicians use many integrative approaches, including: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT),  acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), relational and psychodynamic methods, brainspotting, mindfulness based approach, internal family systems (IFS), the gottman method, EMDR, ketamine assisted therapy, attachment theory, parts work, trauma-informed practice, mind-body informed practice, polyvagal-informed therapy, and many more. We tailor our approach to you rather than using a one-size-fits-all method.

Insurance

Our entire team is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans. In addition, some Marra providers are paneled with UnitedHealthcareCigna, and Aetna—coverage varies by clinician.

If you plan to use United, Cigna, or Aetna, tell us when you book and we’ll match you with an in-network provider when available.

If your ideal therapist isn’t in-network with your plan, you can still work with them using self-pay, and we’ll provide a superbill so you can submit for any out-of-network benefits.

We run a courtesy benefits check before your first appointment, but final costs are determined by your plan (deductible, copay/coinsurance, and any visit limits).

Payment is due at the time of service.

Yes. Marra accepts self-pay clients, and this option is often preferred by individuals who want greater privacy or who do not want their care influenced by insurance coverage decisions. Self-pay allows for more flexibility in treatment and ensures that no information about your therapy is shared with your health insurance provider.

Our out-of-pocket rates range from $165 to $250 per session, depending on the therapist’s years of experience, level of training, and areas of specialization.

If you’d like to learn more about pricing or inquire about the cost of working with a specific therapist, you’re welcome to contact us at hello@marratherapy.com or call our office at 312-620-8836.

Session Information

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. It’s a dedicated hour to know yourself better, maximize your strengths, and keep your relationships thriving.

People start therapy for all kinds of reasons—navigating a life transition, caring for an aging parent, getting engaged, welcoming a new baby, starting a new job or relationship, or simply noticing the duality of joy and stress at the same time.

You don’t have to hit rock bottom to ask for support.

Our first session is a space to get oriented, discuss what brings you to therapy, and co-create goals. There’s no pressure to have figured everything out — we’re here to meet you where you are

This can happen, and it’s more common than people think. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all—therapists have different training backgrounds, therapeutic modalities, and personal styles, and sometimes the fit just isn’t right.

If you’re feeling unsure about the connection or progress, we encourage you to reach out. Our client concierge can help explore a different match within Marra based on your needs, preferences, and goals. Making a change will not hurt your therapist’s feelings—we fully understand that fit is everything, and our priority is helping you feel supported and seen.

Our goal is for you to thrive in therapy. If something isn’t working, we want to help you find what does.

MARRA is built on a collaborative model of care. Rather than working in isolation, our therapists function as an ecosystem- valuing teamwork, ongoing consultation, and shared clinical insight.

When you work with a therapist at Marra, you benefit from more than one perspective. While your therapist maintains the direct, confidential relationship with you, they are also supported by a broader clinical team through continuous consultation and collaboration. This approach allows us to thoughtfully consider your care, draw from multiple areas of expertise, and ensure you’re receiving high-quality, well-rounded support.

We believe therapy is strongest when clinicians are connected, supported, and learning together. Our collaborative model helps us provide care that is intentional, responsive, and aligned with your growth

Types of Care

Absolutely. Marra offers in-person therapy at our River West office in Chicago and many clients prefer the feel of being in the room together.

We also provide secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual sessions you can take from the comfort and privacy of your home (or office) anywhere in Illinois.

You’re welcome to stick with one format or mix in-person and telehealth based on your schedule and preferences—just let us know your preference when you book.
