Therapist for Men in Chicago
You learned early to handle it yourself. Not to make it anyone else’s problem. It made you dependable, and people count on you for it. But it has been running without a break for a long time now, and you are the one absorbing it.

How we treat it
There is no one reason men come here,
so there is no one way we work
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Looks at the rules you picked up about what you are supposed to be able to handle on your own, and tests them against the evidence.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Looks at the patterns that keep repeating and where you learned them, so the same thing stops happening in every job and every relationship.
Strengths-Based Therapy
Begins with what is already working, because you usually have more going for you than you give yourself credit for, and builds from there.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Eases the fight with the feelings so they take up less room, and puts your attention on what you actually want your life to look like.

Is this stress, or anxiety?
Eight questions, about two minutes. It uses the GAD-7, the same short screening tool clinicians use. You will get a score and a few things worth reading next. No email needed.

What happens next
Getting started
A free consultation. We believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and that starts with working with someone who gets you. The consultation is how you find out.
Getting scheduled. We aim to book you within 24 hours of reaching out, and most people are seen that week.
Your first session. You bring what is on your mind. Your therapist takes some history and you set goals together. Your therapist paces it with you.

FAQs
Questions about therapy for men
Do I need to see a male therapist?
No. Some men want one, and we will match you accordingly. What matters more is whether the person understands what you are dealing with and whether you can be straight with them. We ask you about it on the consultation.
I have never done this before. What if I have nothing to say?
That is normal, and getting the conversation going is your therapist’s job, not yours. You do not need to arrive with it organized. Most men find the words show up once someone is actually listening.
Is this just going to be about my childhood?
Only if that turns out to be useful. You set the goals. If what you want is to stop snapping at your kids, or to sleep through the night again, that is what the work is about.
My problem is anger. Can therapy help with that?
Yes. Anger is often the feeling that got permission when the others did not. Therapy works on what sits underneath it and gives you something to do with it in the moment, not just after.
Do you work with men who came because their partner asked them to?
Often. Coming for someone else is a fine reason to start. What keeps people here is usually something they find once they are in the room.
Will my therapist tell me I am the problem?
No. Your therapist is on your side. Being on your side sometimes means being honest with you, and if something lands wrong you can say so.
I drink more than I would like. Can I bring that here?
Bring it. We are an outpatient practice for adults, so weekly therapy is the level of care we provide. If what is going on needs more support than that, your therapist will tell you honestly and help you find the right place.
How long do sessions last?
Fifty five minutes, usually weekly to begin with.
What should I bring to my first session?
Nothing. Your therapist takes it from wherever you are that day.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions every clinician is bound by, which your therapist will walk you through in your first session.
Do you accept insurance?
Our whole team is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans. Some of our clinicians are also paneled with United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna. Coverage varies from therapist to therapist, and we check yours before you commit to anything.
