In-Person Therapy in Chicago

Some people do their best work over video. Others find that something does not quite land. The attention drifts, and the room at home stays the room at home. Sitting across from someone changes what is possible in the hour. It tends to be the right fit when one of these is true.

How we treat it

The room is not a detail,
it is part of how the work happens

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Names the thought patterns that keep something running, and works on what to do with them.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Starts from what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, and paces the work so nothing moves faster than you can hold. Being in the room gives your body somewhere steady to be while you do it.

Strengths-Based Therapy

Begins with what you are already doing well, because you are usually more resourced than you feel, and builds from there.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Eases the fight with difficult feelings so they take up less room, and focuses on moving toward what matters.

Our space

This is not a clinic

700 N. Green Street, River West, Chicago, convenient to River North, West Loop, West Town, Fulton Market, and Bucktown, and just steps from the Blue Line. Natural light, calm tones, and nothing sterile about it. We built it to feel closer to a well-kept room in someone’s home than to a waiting area, because an hour is easier to use well when the room is not working against you.

FAQs

Questions about in-person therapy

Where is your office?

Our studio is at 700 N. Green Street in River West, convenient to River North, West Loop, West Town, Fulton Market, and Bucktown, and just steps from the Blue Line.

In person or online, how do I choose?

Most people know within a session or two. If your attention drifts at home, or the work keeps going somewhere your body needs to be in the room for, in person tends to be the answer. You do not have to decide before the consultation. That call is a good place to work it out.

Can I switch between in person and online?

Occasionally, yes. If a week gets away from you, your therapist can usually see you online instead. What does not work is moving back and forth as a habit. In-person times are limited and we hold them for people who are coming in, so a standing slot is something you keep by using it.

What happens when I arrive?

You come in, you sit down, and you wait a few minutes if you are early. There is no front desk to check in with and nothing to fill in on arrival.

How long do sessions last?

Fifty five minutes, usually weekly to begin with.

What should I bring to my first session?

Nothing. Your therapist takes it from wherever you are that day.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions your therapist will walk you through at the start.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in network with several major plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna and United Healthcare. Coverage varies from therapist to therapist, and we check yours before you commit to anything.
