How we treat it

There is no one reason women come here,
so there is no one way we work

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Looks at the rules you have absorbed about what you should be able to handle, and tests them against the evidence.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Starts from what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, and paces the work so nothing moves faster than you can hold.

Strengths-Based Therapy

Begins with what you are already doing well, because you are usually more resourced than you feel, and builds from there.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Eases the fight with the feelings so they take up less room, and focuses on moving toward what matters to you rather than what is expected of you.

Not sure

Is this overwhelm, or anxiety?

Eight questions, about two minutes. It uses the GAD-7, the same short screening tool clinicians use. You will get a score and a few things worth reading next. No email needed.

FAQs

Questions about therapy for women

Do I need to see a woman therapist?

No. Some people want one, and we will match you accordingly. What matters more is whether the person understands what you are carrying. We ask you about it on the consultation.

Do you take into consideration how hormonal changes affect mood?

Yes. We are not medical doctors and we do not diagnose hormonal conditions, but hormonal changes affect mood and we take them into account. Your therapist factors them into the work and gives you tools that fit what your body is doing.

Is it worth coming if nothing is really wrong?

Yes. Most of the women we see are functioning well and quietly running on empty. You do not need a crisis to justify the hour.

Does therapy for women address systemic issues?

Where they are part of what you are dealing with, yes. Not everything you are carrying is personal, and treating it as though it is does not help.

What if my partner or family does not believe in therapy?

You do not need anyone else to agree with the decision. What happens in the room is yours, and your therapist can help you work out what, if anything, you want to share at home.

How long do sessions last?

Fifty five minutes, usually weekly to begin with.

What should I bring to my first session?

Nothing. Your therapist takes it from wherever you are that day.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions your therapist will walk you through at the start.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in network with several major plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna and United Healthcare. Coverage varies from therapist to therapist, and we check yours before you commit to anything.
